Through the window and the wood

by Andrea Young, Daniel Brandes, and Benjamin Brandes

/
  • Compact Disc (CD) + Digital Album

A limited edition dual release of poetry and music, bound together in one pocket-sized book.

**Please Note: this is not a CD release...But a book plus digital download. Tagging it as a CD was, unfortunately, the only way to connect it on Band Camp to the digital album, ensuring that you receive a digital download code from Band Camp upon purchase.

    This item includes:

    1) "49th & Chester", a debut collection of 7 poems by poet, song-writer, and visual artist Benjamin Brandes,

    and

    2) the liner notes/digital download code for "Through the Window and the Wood": a 2 hour and 40 minute work for voice and electronics (based on a poem from 49th & Chester) by Daniel Brandes, and performed and recorded by Andrea Young.

Includes unlimited streaming of Through the window and the wood via the free Bandcamp app, plus high-quality download in MP3, FLAC and more.

  • Streaming + Download

Includes high-quality download in MP3, FLAC and more. Paying supporters also get unlimited streaming via the free Bandcamp app.

This digital download comes with pdf liner-notes. If you have a few extra bucks to spend, I highly recommend getting a copy of the limited edition book release while copies are available. It's beautiful collection of poems, and comes with liner-notes about the piece as well.
    ----
Due to the very quiet volume of this piece—and the nature or the noise material—much of the nuance of the sound-world will be inaudible on standard laptop speakers. Please listen through good quality headphones or speakers (if possible).

about

"16 sonic dwellings.

Each one: a place; a remote, abstract landscape; a space
in which to be deeply immersed—to become lost.

And then, momentarily, emerging from the snowy vista,
a familiar signpost: the human voice." – Daniel Brandes

"When singing silence, the vocalist emits a voice which
is not heard, revealing the presence of the inner
voice that holds space without sound. The common
positivistic connotation of voice is challenged, offering
experimentation with the negative space of the voice,
the plurality of voices that occur within each person
and the movement between these voices. To sing may
be better understood as the practice of moving between
the inner voice to the audible voice and back again,
from one voice of conscience to another voice of
projection." —Andrea Young
